Rubi 2020: Telenovela Remake leaves many disappointed

A week ago, the new version of the Telenovela Rubi aired for the first time on the channel Univision.
The new version of the series left much to be desired starting with many believing the actress, Camila Sodi, failed to really body the character of Rubi.

The original actress, Barbara Mori, really made Rubi iconic. She had the face, talent, and energy needed to truly make the telenovela villain into one of the most beloved, yet hated characters in the history of telenovelas.

Camila Sodi, unfortunately, does give off the vibe of a girl next door, rather than an evil, conniving mastermind. She does have her moments, but more than anything, she comes off as awkward. The telenovela does have its cheesy moments, but I guess that's to be expected. The story line began pretty well, but once you get into the episodes three and four, you really start to lose interest in it. In episode four, we see Rubi taking on the task of seducing Hector, her rich friend's fiance. Unlike the original, she uses the information from a famous gossip journalist to find out what he likes and make her believe that she's his soulmate. She takes him out to drink and begins her seduction.

Unfortunately, the seduction was cheesy, boring, and super cringe. Even the original way she seduces him in the first version was a lot less cringier than that scene. I really wanted to like this Telenovela, believe me. It started off good and I was really expecting the next episodes to do really well, but it just left me with a sour taste in my mouth. A lot of people will still continue watching this regardless, and I will too, just to see whether it gets better or just, in general, to watch it as a guilty pleasure. But, that's pretty much all I have to say about it. All in all, the original beats this one way more. Although, the advanced technology and having Ruby tell her story to a journalist definitely makes this show a little better.
